End Game?

Hey, I was just curious about what the whole Castle Story community thought about an end game for the game. Theres probably a post regarding this already.. but, whatever... :D

So, personally I think there shouldn't be an end game. Even if you do get to continue afterward, that always gives me the feel that there's nothing else to do. But I think there should be some main objective, other than just defending your castle.

    What about you guys? :)

Main objective is to build a castle, defend it, explore your island and new islands, and expand. You may have to defend enemies or enemy castles along the way and you will be searching for rare items and minerals as well. I do not see an end game expect for specific modes like a 1v1 battle.

I hope they just let us build "worlds" and challanges. I think the possibilities are endless. Something like "user-desginer campaigns" with a sort of "little big planet" download and distribution system. It would be great.

Anyway, I think the only limit of castle story will be the imagination. It's like we play with Legos or something like that when we're baby... There's no limit.

I believe that one of the objective is to show off breath-taking and illustrious architectural accomplishments that inspire awe, prove true craftsmanship and provide creator with well-deserved recognition.

I hope they implement something like mechanic blocks, something like the buttons or gear on Little Big Planet or something like Lego Technich. It would be awesome build inspired architectural and both excellent mechanic in our castles.

The game ends when a bunch of undead gorillas invade and rampage your base and you lose... oh wait, I'm thinking of Dwarf Fortress.
Anyway, it would depend on a scenario. Survival scenario: Ends when you lose (To accomplish this, limit the tools given to the player, so they couldn't make a easy/ultimate defense, and increasing difficulty over time), or a certain Mission scenario (Explore entire island, get x of y resources, defeat the enemy, defend for z amount of time etc.)
The game will always have limits, and what the player could do will have limits, so proper end-game scenario should be needed.
    (And remember: Losing is fun)

You're right. I remember the legendary The Settlers 3:

It was simply amazing because it has the "free random mode" with a giant random map and a lot of opponents. I hope they could upgrade to Unity Pro tool and give us something like that, I think it will be endless.

I would never want an endgame. True sandbox games never do.

I've always enjoyed "Kingdom Management" scenarios. Where the game is inherently difficult enough that gathering resources and feeding your workers and still gaining enough to expand buildings and military was a challenge. I enjoyed the Stronghold games immensely and that is what this game reminds me of in a more sandboxy(not-a-word) kind of way. I could play a single free play scenario for hours on end and find all my enjoyment in making sure my Bricktrons don't starve!

Think minecraft ending, with a sorta goal and when its done your back where u started thats the only kind of goal a sandbox should have

I have to say I got minecraft but never got into it. Whats that system? If its a sandbox, it shouldn't ever end till the player clicks <quit>

There could be several modes, with objectives or something. But the sandbox and survival modes should be neverending (apart from having all bricktrons die of course). Like no objective or mission that ends the game.

I think 'sandbox' mode should be a sandbox with no enemies, although the player can choose to summon them (think Dungeon Keeper 2: Pet Dungeon).

I think 'survival' mode should be the standard mode where enemies spawn and you are simply trying to build the best castle you can, explore and expand while fighting off the monsters.

Achivements, little milestones or little side-quests could fit into survival mode, possibly as an option. These would simple be things like 'send bricktrons to 5 islands', 'gather 1000 stone blocks', 'kill 500 corruptrons' etc, maybe with a small reward like a special useful or cosmetic item that you can give a bricktron or use to decorate your castle.

I think these would add a little direction, although I think the objectives should not be out-of-the-way things but things you would expect the player to do naturally... i.e. not 'search island X for item Y' or 'build a tower 50 blocks tall'. The objectives would simple be like I said, benchmarks in the progress you would expect and want - gathering more resoruces, exploring, killing monsters, getting more bricktrons... rather than random hoops to jump throug that the player goes out of their way too.

I agree with small milestones. Hopefully, there will be statistics tracking that is visible: number of corruptrons killed, number of bricks placed, amount of dirt mined. That kind of thing,

yeah, although only for 'preset' gamemodes, not where you've made custom ones... like stats for the preset 'survival' mode without modifications. Otherwise it'd be skewed depending on your settings :p

but ingame milestones with little rewards would be really cool IMO, i would love to get little cool-looking items for my castle or my guys...

There should be small goals that you have to go out of your way to do but grant some small reward.
In minecraft there are strongholds which you find and can go to a dimension called the end. you fight a enderdragon and get a crap ton of experience then you go back to the real world and keep on playing.
Thats kind of how it should be small goals that dont effect the game that much but are fun and give some idea of what to do after you have an UBER FORTESS that leaves you unassailable by enemies

    hmm...

I still think small milestones you don't go out of your way to do but benchmark your progress while you expand naturally...

I also do think maybe side-objectives/goals would be cool... little extras out of your way... not really sure, I think they could work well but have to be implemented well and make sense in context, not be contrived. like, dig this or go here to summon a mini-boss to attack you, defeat it for unique item :p

Definitely no end game screen, unless it is a bricktron/corruptron falling from the island into the ocean. I'd love to see a close up on his face

Well, I was hoping we were going to have raids with giant dragons. And get 1-2 pieces of loot of them. We could repeat them daily until every Mobe has what he needs, to take the next big dragon down.
