island bridges

Off course not, with credits to me. But I find it hardly make sense to make disappear two concrete, stone blocks to make appear an ethereal one. Off course, they shouldn't be free, you could just spam them as barricades and they would be OP. Maybe the wizards need to use some soul gems to get their magic energy from? And soul gems would be found in little quantities near the bottom of the islands.

well the wizard could be really powerful and doesn't need anything to charge them, but he wants you to give him some sort of payment or he is trying too collect stone blocks. Maybe it could be random what you have to give him.

I think that there should be various types of materials that you can build bridges out of, and some of them collapse under certain circumstances.

I was thinking, a simple user made fortified stone bridge could work. Don't know what Unity would think of that though.

ohh what's the fun in that though? XD

._. fortifying your bridge so it doesn't collapse and murder 20 BTs.

As I already said somewhere on the forum : Wait for the enemy to walk on the bridge, then make it explode... enemy down !

Remind me of Company of Heroes. :D

What about floating stepping stones between the islands? The bricktrons could hop between them. Its not especially practical but it would look cool.

I suppose in the end, many of the suggestion rely on how heavily they introduce magic into the game, you know?

oh i read what you said wrong, i though you meant just like plain stone blocks across an empty gap. i see what you mean now.

I think manually building a bridge from one to another would be boss

I think manually building the bridge would be cool. I think anything that is going to be floating over the air should be powered by the same thing the islands are. Perhaps some type of floating crystal type you must harvest in order to build the bridge. The crystals would be deep in the under belly of the island so it would take you a while before you could start floating to other places. I guess the idea then would be you would have to place that crystal type every so often on your bridge or the blocks will just fall. These crystals could also be used to run an airship :)

You probably would not want to be to greedy though or your island could fall out of the sky? Just a thought.

I think you could place a first block e.g. an wooden one on the island and then connect another block to it, so the physics of the outermost totally depend on the physics of the block on the island.
Moreover you might have to keep those block in balance, so you have to add a foundationor something like that.

Are we talking like a little bridge from islands that close to one another. From the video they showed the islands looked pretty far away. I am just trying to figure out how you would bridge the gap without falling. Once the bridge is built then your good to go. Unless its a really huge span.

Bridges pose an interesting problem. Based on what I have read and seen in pictures and the videos, the process of bridge building will not be an easy task given the restrictions on wood beam, planks and stone bricks and the physics engine. Since bricks have to be supported the bridge will have to rise 1 brick for every half brick of distance. It also means then all bridges build for a single side of an air gap between islands will be ascending only, until you can reach the other side and build the second half.

Wood also has a limitation on the distance it can span before it has to be supported. I would love to see a video of how a bridge being built in the engine to see how it was accomplished. A rope bridge would be a great first stage for a gap crossing to get bricktrons to the other side so the bridge can be built grom both sides and be joined in the center later. Perhaps a balista could be used to place the rope bridge to get the ball started.

I like that ballista idea. That would get the rope started and then you just have posts on both sides and the wood planks in between. If they don't have a ballista then use the catapult.

btw I just fund this in the official sauropod studio blog (here) :

Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont see any reason why you could not make brigdes like this.

Edit: I just saw that there is a maximum length of 6 bricks.
Anyway, it would be still an improvement. Also I forgot to mention the planks which can combined with them.

I really do hope that the strength and weight limit of the bridge are determined by how you build it. I hope to evilly laugh as my catapult destroys an enemy bridge while their bricktrons cross it.

The problem people are finding with that system is that they need to be built from both sides (the beams cannot be made the full 6 blocks long unless there is already a pole to attach to on the other side), and if you want to build a bridge to an island you can't already reach, then you're out of luck.
I don't think Sauropod has implemented a way of reaching new islands yet, but I have faith they'll make something good. Like magic bridges powered by crystals or something. It'll work out.

But that's what the ballista is for. It would shoot a giant arrow with a rope across the the other island. A brave bricktron would then climb across the rope to the other side, at which point he will start building up the other side of the rope bridge. They'll slowly build up the small rope bridge until it's complete. After this, they'll be able to travel to both sides, and thus be able to make a stronger wood and stone bridge. It's crazy, it's dangerous, but it works until you can get an airship.
