[RTD] Strange Tale

Take control of a Bricktron or something like it and try to survive on floating islands. Have I mentioned the ravenous horrors, customizable building options, and high chance for accidentally hurling yourself screaming off a cliff?

    The Setup
You're a Bricktron or something close enough, specifically a brightly colored blob-man of some flavor or another. You're on a floating island with your fellow blob-men and should probably get to work building defenses and whatever else strikes your fancy. Maybe if you get lucky you can even get some more of your own kind.

Specifically, players attempt to design and build various things, but the things they can build depend on what they try and succeed to do. If a player decides they want to try to invent paper, they can give that a shot. If another wants to refine stronger metals or come up with magic, they're free to try. Success is not guaranteed, and some things are probably impossible, but you might not know that until you try.

    The Rules
This game will be using Roll to Dodge (RTD) rules. Players post actions, I roll a six-sided die to resolve them using the table below.

[6] Overshot. You succeeded too well. Something probably went wrong from your overkill accomplishment.
[5] Critical Success. You succeeded perfectly. This went as well as could be expected.
[4] Success. You succeeded, plain and simple. You got done whatever it is you wanted to get done.
[3] Partial Success. You succeeded somewhat or in a substandard way. You either half-completed whatever you were trying to do, or did it but not very well.
[2] Failure. You failed. In some cases this may have additional consequences, while in others it just means you didn't accomplish anything.
[1] Critical Failure. You made things worse. Whatever you were trying to do, it probably either backfired or was ruined instead.

    How To Join
Joining up is simple; just fill out the following form. There will be a maximum of eight players at a time; excess players go on the waitlist, where they wait until someone else dies and they can jump in to take their place. If I'm feeling especially sadistic, waitlisters might even get the chance to loosely control monsters in order to speed that process along.:p

    Name:
    Appearance:
    Flavor:

-Name is obviously your in-game name; it can be the same as your username for apathy/convenience/lack of creativity if you so desire.
-Appearance should be self-evident, but you should ideally be a blob-man like everyone else.
-Flavor is what your delicious kind tastes like; I would assume it would be some sort of fruit flavor, but if you want to be the flavor of ham or gravel or water be my guest. Your flavor will not generally affect how frequently you're attacked or anything like that, but some enemies might have specific preferences.

    Current Roster

    Bricktron John (batweildingbear)
Tubby, grey-colored blobman with light blue eyes.
    Marshmallow and marmalade flavored.
-Treasure Chest. This thing is heavy, well-made, kind of fancy, and definitely locked. Hm...

    ??? Fishbrickus (Fickbertus) ???
Tubby, purple-colored blobman with glowing violet eyes.
    Spicy black chocolate flavored.

    Dan (WaffleZ)
Tubby, yellow-colored blobman with black eyes.
    Milk and blueberry smoothie flavored.

    ??? Skittlez (AwesomeGrant) ???
    Tubby, glittery rainbow-colored blobman.
Multiple fruit flavored, depending on location.

    Willhelm van Brick (tornado2)
Very short, yellow-colored blobman with a big fuzzy beard.
    Very tough; flavor unknown!
-Stick. It's a mediocre weapon at best, but better than nothing.
-Stick Bundle. These sticks are numerous, straight, and fairly uniform in size.

    Jenissen (Inspector Legrasse)
Tubby, yellow-colored blobman with black streaks and yellow-tinged eyes. Has only one arm, the right one being little more than a charred stump.
    Burnt marshmallow flavored.

    Holy (Holylifestar)
Tall, blue-colored blobman with piercing red eyes.
    Dragon fruit flavored.

    Boxatron (TheBox)
    Tubby, brown-colored blobman.
    Cardboard flavored.

    ??? Theor (KillSpammer) ???
Tubby, yellow blobman with a white beard, worn-looking body, soft, smooth hands, and glowing blue eyes.

Tubby, yellow colored blobman with black eyes.
    Lemon flavored.

    The World

    The Field
A fairly large, open space of mostly level grass.

    -Flint
There's a small depression of flint near the edge.

    -Sand Pit
There's a shallow sand pit near the edge. It's surprisingly difficult to climb out of.

    Sheer Mountain
Off to one side of the The Field is a tall, sheer-faced mountain.

    Sheer Cliff
A short distance from one side of The Field is an incredibly sudden drop onto a lava-covered island far below.

    The Small Cave
Off in some direction is a small, cozy dirt cave.

    The Cave
In parts unknown is a very wet cave.
  3. Name: Bricktron John
Appearance: Gray, very simular to the zombricktrons (what people on twitter called the monsters hinted at in the Sauropod offical site) except with his eyes (a lightshade of blue) and his shape (the same as the average tubby bricktron, rather than the well toned muscles that the zombricktrons have)
    Flavor: Marshmellows and marmalade.
  4. Fishbertus Member

    Name: Fishbrickus
Appearance: Purple, with glowing violet eyes. Also, I have a fishbowl with a goldfish in it on my head.
    Flavor: Spicy Black Chocolate!

Right then, looks like this will take a while to get off the ground, so we might as well get started, as opposed to doing nothing until we get some people. I'll probably hold off on things trying to eat you until there's a decent number of players, or else they'll be ravenous squirrels or something similarly not difficult to deal with.

    Turn 0: Lonely Start

Bricktron John and Fishbrickus blinked a few times. Where were they again? Oh yes, a floating island with nothing else on it and that they didn't remember. That made sense.

Looking around, they seemed to be in a sort of level clearing; there were trees and hills and such around, but the spot they were in was fairly large and more or less flat. They noted with a hint of sadness that there weren't any of their fellows around besides them. They wasn't quite sure why they would expect any at all, much less more than each other, but the realization still filled them with a mild sense of longing.

Well, maybe they could find more of their fellows later, and there was plenty to be done to take their minds off it.

    It is Morning.

    ((Gah, ninja'd. Welcome aboard.))
  6. Fishbertus Member

Wait, so I am allowed to make a turn or do you do that?
  7. IronyOwl New Member

You provide an action, I process the results.

For instance, if you wanted to chop down a tree, you'd say so. Then I'd roll a die and describe you perfectly cutting down the tree, failing to make a dent in it, chopping it down in such a way that it falls on you, etc.

Of course, you're free to describe the intent of an action, ie "I expertly chop down all the trees!" or "Fishbrickus panted from exertion, before hacking down yet another tree with one blow. He'd need to drag them all back soon!" It just might not turn out that way.
  8. Bricktron John, remembering very little about his past, decided to explore the island, he began walking up a steep hill, then when he reached near the summit...(insert your dice roll story thing here)

    Turn 1: On Various Stones

[6] Wandering off into the distance, you discover a rather severe mountain. Your attempts to climb it mostly fail; it's too steep to find a clear way up. On the bright side, now you know more about the surrounding area, and if you ever need a mountain, you know where to find one.

    Sheer mountain discovered.

[5] While you don't magically own a small village and various amenities- not even a snazzy hat, in fact!- you do blink slowly, look around, and then discover a small depression of flint. You've have to harvest it to actually use, of course, but you suspect this could be very handy in the future.

    Flint patch discovered.

I hope this gives you a better idea of the game's flow. The second post has been updated with geographical information.

Also, no starting headgear unless it's part of your head or might as well be- in other words, can't come off and doesn't interfere with different hats. A fishbowl could potentially qualify, except then you'd never be able to take it off and would have to wear everything over it. A cowboy hat could potentially work the same way, but seems even more like a tradeable accessory. Otherwise, if you want a hat you'll just have to make one.

Also note that, if and when you manage to acquire more of your own kind, they'll look identical to you except for actual equipment, fake headgear included.

    Turn two for WaffleZ
    Code:
    [/COLOR]
    [COLOR=#00ffff]Best scenario:[/COLOR]
[COLOR=#00ffff]Manages to dig up some of the flint with surrounding objects, and find a small depot of steel.[/COLOR]

    [COLOR=#00ffff]Worst scenario:[/COLOR]
[COLOR=#00ffff]Gives up, and bumps into Skittlez or John.[/COLOR]
    [COLOR=#00ffff]
    [/code][/COLOR]
  13. Walking around the mountain, trying to find to see if something was behind it, Bricktron John suddenly stumbled on a small rock. He saw a sheer drop ahead of him, and if he didnt get his balance back fast, it is evident he would fall off the edge.
(I would like you to roll to see if he falls off the edge and if he does, what would happen, like fall off the island, fall in a large hole, fall on a giant stash of space cake, etc...)

    Turn 2: Long Way Down

[2] You fail to do more than paw longingly at the flint.

((You're free to meet/talk with other players whenever, including following them to regions they've just explored.))

[5] You successfully find and stand on the edge of a very impressive-looking drop. It's one of those incredibly severe faces that looks like it was sheared clean off, resulting in a nice contrast between "floor" and "plummeting to your doom." It's really very dramatic.

[1] It's made even more dramatic by the fact that the space below the drop seems to be some sort of volcanic lava party. Really, if there's anything more dramatic and imposing than a sudden, massive fall into lava, you certainly can't think of it at the moment.

((If you didn't notice, you're in, AwesomeGrant. Also, until we get a full, active game, I'll allow players to suggest actions for inactive players. If they pop in and give a real action before I run the turn, their actual action takes precedence. Otherwise, they shrug and follow their comrades' advice.))[/code][/quote][/code][/COLOR][/quote]

I think my quoting broke it a little.
You should try to fix that.
  16. IronyOwl New Member

Yeah. In addition to too many yet still not functioning endquote tags, the color infected the whole thing. o_O

    All better now though.
  17. Bricktron John decided that he had enough with exploring. In fact, he was so deep in thought about what he would do when he got back to the field, he didn't notice the extremely small in circumference, but mind boggling deep hole, that is, until he stepped in it. Wedged in the hole rather than falling in it because of his tubby nature, he was effectively stuck. He began calling for help, louder with each cry of despair.

After the disappointing attempt of getting some flint, WaffleZ notes down the location of the mineral source. Noticing that it was starting to get late, and nothing seemed to be going right, he walked down an odd beaten path pondering about questions he could only dream of answering. All of a sudden, he heard a noise, no, it was a plea for help. For this was a good thing, he wasn't alone anymore! This was risky, he didn't know if the distress call came from a friend or a foe, but he took the chance and ran towards the source of the emergency.
