This idea came up while replying to people on my old suggestion thread.
I've thought about it, and I have seen streams of the game, and i've gotta say that the world below the islands feels empty... very empty.... TOO empty.

My suggestion is simple, and purely cosmetic (I think it could easily be optional as well) - whenever you look at the ocean, you will see a huge water creature such as a giant squid, or a huge sea serpent or even something as simply as a gigantic fish monster thing...

It could add a bit of feel to the game, so the ocean would actually feel... "alive" i guess.

Also another idea on the matter - If you add those giant fish, could you make them leap out of the water just a bit while resources (or more commonly - bricktrons) fall off the edge so they would try and eat them?

I've left a poll here to see what the community thinks about this...

All responses and feedback welcome :)

*EDIT: Please when voting explain what you voted for and your reasoning. Thank you :)

O.k. so the votes this far are pretty much one sided (almost) towards the sea monster idea!

I'm happy to see people supporting it! :)

That actually seems like a neato idea, it would defiantly add something visual to look at while your castle is being made.

Thats what I was going for!
It would give the ocean a bit more life, and make the falling-of-an-island part more interesting, even if its just a log of wood :p

I would have them only appear jumping out of the water to eat bricktrons/other falling stuff :)

Well what i meant with this idea is basicly to see them sometimes without the falling stuff, maybe just the tips of their tails \ fins or just a shadow underwater - as an uncommon sight, i didn't mean that you will always (or quite often) see them, because this will be redundant and will also lagg the game.
If you only add them while stuff is falling it will give it a scripted feeling... you need to feel them around some way or the other, just so they won't give the player a teleporting-giant-fish feel...

I was thinking of something like in Ratchet and Clank the fish that eat you to prevent you from going out of the map boundaries.
A shadow would probably be not perceptible from such a height though...

I meant a visible shadow of course... not a small one either... like a big figure suddenly moving below the sea, and the fin sticking out...
And I get what you mean, and its kind of what i was going for, but not for every bit of resource that falls off - just for like bigger amounts or just bricktrons...

I just dont think something as big as that could go unnoticed - even from that hight...
When i say big fish - I mean HUGE fish - kind of like the "epic" creatures in spore - you can see the damned thing from miles away...

For the people who vote the second answer - can you post on why? just curious...

So far i guess theres not much competition... it's pretty much one sided...

I'm new to the forums so can anyone help (if its even possible) by getting one of the devs to see this?

    Thanks in advance :)

Well, whenever we posted something before the prototype, the devs would most likely see it, even though they rarely commented. I think the moderators point the devs to certain threads if they find them interesting enough.
I expect them, however, to be working hard on the game at the moment (trying to fix the worse bugs of the prototype probably), and this can definitely wait some time

This sounds like a great idea. at the moment the ocean is a bit... plain?
also maybe seabirds flying in open spaces away from blocks.

Yeah that sounds good too! :D

Sorry Moncho didn't notice your last comment...

Well I just hope to see some "official" reply or something from the devs or from the moderators - just to know that the suggestion is at least worth something...

But yeah i guess they're just working on fixing all those bugs in the prototype...

OK guys the poll is almost closed... if you haven't voted yet please do, I want this poll to be as accaurate as possible!

I would vote in your poll, but there is not an option i would choose. (also the first one almost seem disrespectful because your demanding something beyond your right) The concept is cool, my only problem with it is if you actually watch the bricktrons fall they get so small before you even get near the water that you would not see them. Basically, i am not sure you would even see huge sea monsters from this height.

As far as dev feedback, dont hold your breath. I have never seen direct feedback about any suggestion or idea.

Well i see what you mean about the first option, just wanted the poll to not look bland is all (did not intend for it to sound THAT demanding, sorry devs :p )

I don't think that seeing the bricktron fall is even required, just make the giant fish leap out, open its mouth and close it... you know what happened regardless of seeing the bricktron :p

And about seeing the monster itself - like i said - they're huge... so big that you can see them from ridiculous hights. Again, I was thinking about spore's "epic" creatures (they're the size of a city).

About the dev feedback - thanks for letting me know, i still do hope they would see this suggestion and at least think about it. But in the end - it's their product - their game - and they can do whatever they want with it. I'm just suggesting features that I would like to see - sorry again for making the first option seem so demanding :p

I didnt think you were really trying to demand, i just thought i would say how it could be taken. As for feedback, i know the feeling. There are a few posts/topics that i have made that i would love to know their stance on too. I would say its hard for them though, they want to keep their options open and if they give an opinion or like something here and its public, they would be opening themselves up for expectations which may not be met.

I would make a suggestion to add to your idea however. You have suggested epic sized sea monsters which could be cool. Personally, i love storms. We are high enough they could have clouds over the water surface as well, and the ocasional one could be a dark storm cloud with huge storm head that flashes with each lightning strike. It would be especially cool for night storms where the cloud would just light up.

Yeah i see what you mean with the feedback...

And that storm idea sounds pretty good! but unless it has any effect on the surroundings i would make it optional - just for people that don't like it or people that have older systems, so it won't lag too much...

If they did this i would go all Aztec and sacrifice a bricktron in order to appease the gods just for fun! and it would make the scene from 300 recreate-able in this game.Yay.
