Just... just look at the kickstarter. There's not much more to add for information :)

This looks like an amazingly promising game. Just seeing that you actually walk around inside that carrier and not just have a landing cuscene/visual and then a screen showing the things to buy and sell and some missions... heck, I wanna play this already!

Shame my laptop will never, ever be able to handle this in its wildest dreams....

I was hyped, like HYPED for this game. Couple of things though, you don't seem to be able to control carriers.

Also, Cash Shop. GW2 was the last game I'll buy with a Cash Shop (Planetside being an exception).

cash shop -_- yes I know. Seems to be in almost every game nowadays.

And yeah I'm really looking forward to it. And in the Squardon 42 campaign bit, no I don't think you can control the carrier, but I think in like the open universe you can, it seems they want you to be able to control all sorts of ships, not just a fighter game but you can control a destroyer or whatever, man the different positions, have friends manning your ship, boarding combat... just :D
  4. Klaleara Member

Boarding combat was actually not announced from what I read sadly. How you could NOT have boarding combat is beyond me.

However, if I could grab 20 of my friends. One being captain for the Carrier, fully customized to your liking, bunch as pilots (AI as pilots), few as security (Possibly man anti-fighter turrets while no boarding is going on), and some as engineers running around. It would be beautiful.

Granted, that is a dream far off, this game will most likely not provide that feeling.

it wasv said in the AMA on reddit...

And well i think that kind of thing is the aim. Its a space sim, for space sim fans, by a huge space sim fan. who happens to be very talented and experienced.

We will see, I won't back it. Specially sense he has several backing ordeals going on, with different amounts.

Huh? Do you mean that you can back on his site or on kickstarter? Its the same as castlestory having a paypal from website and a KS...
  8. Klaleara Member

What happens if KS succeeds, and his site which is 4x the amounts fails?

I think his site with 4X the ammount is inclusive of the KS amount but yes it does seem strange. (or will be inclusive of it when KS ends). Maybe if the KS reaches 2 million, you'd feel fine to back it? Another option is to back at a scout tier now while they last (if there are any left) and you can always withdraw later on before it finishes... to make sure you get the early backer discount...
  10. Klaleara Member

I want to back it, I REALLY do. It is a game I practically dream of, a lil short, but what game isn't.

However, I'm 100% against cash shops. I want to pay for a full game, and thats it. A sub? I'm fine with a sub, if the game deserves it (Like City of Heroes/Villains).

There is no subscription, and the cash shop does not allow you to get things you can't get in-game anyway. It still annoys me yes, and seems like profiteering, but that seems to be the nature of the industry now. You pay for your game, then you can pay in-game to basically skip bits. Not a fan but oh well.

Oh and it looks like they will defo reach the 2m goal...
  12. Klaleara Member

Well, to push it even farther, we are the ones paying for the game to be developed. Cash Shop on top of that, seems almost like an insult.

And I'm sure he will. It is just a mix of things that he has done that makes me skeptical of his business plans. I whole heartedly hope the game comes out, and it is magnificent. However with some of the things he has done, I will not be supporting his game until I know full well that the cash shop will keep its dirty fingers out of my playing experience.

Every game I have ever seen mention cash shop, says it will have close to no impact if any at all. There always seems to be a surprise announcement a week or two before launch.

It does annoy me. For one thing, why would you say you plan to have it so early in advance? Its not a selling point.

Also, yes if there is absoloutly no interference with gameplay then why would it be there and why would anyone use it? Cosmetics I'm fine with, and in a single-player if idiots want to waste their money to essensially skip the gameplay thats their choice but i'm skeptical too... still I want the game and am backing it, since I'll still get it cheaper this way...

I'm going to say something else that I just noticed that irritates me.

Well he hit his first stretch goal, awesome. However, it is a single ship. One. Don't even know what kind, or what any concept on it. I do know, that this stretch goal is 500k. That is A LOT for one ship. I'm getting more and more into thinking he is milking the money hard. Unless of course, this is one big ship, that is the most details, most awesome, and most unique ship I've ever seen in anything ever.

To be honest, the strech goals are there to get more money. The main thing is the strech goals on the website, the KS ones are just there as extra motivation. The website ones matter, which are basically adding more to the entire game. More missions, more in the open world, just generally increasing the budget to allow them to do more things.

But yes you have to put trust into a developer on kickstarter, and thats what I'm doing for this and a lot of other people too :p
  16. Klaleara Member

Well here is my thought, we are paying to get the game built. It shouldn't be "Here is extra money for no reason". If Kickstarter was perfect, the employees would pay themselves a Salary, and the rest of the money goes into the game. The game then sells, and they make whatever profit from that.

(And this is from his website) A single ship for a $500,000 stretch goal is pocketing $490,000 at the very least. Even more so when you compare stretch goals of other companies.

Yes but I do not believe they are keeping the extras from KS as profit, it is going into the development of the game. I don't understand the problem, the initial target is enough to make squadron 42 in a small scale, and the more they get the more they can make of it and the closer to the open world we get. The 'goals' are just benchmarks (the website ones that is) so people can see how much its rasied compared to what it needs.

With the extra money they can get more liscences, pay more staff, higher quality art and sound assets, all the tons of stuff money is spent on. They can make a lot more with that extra $500,000, the 'extra ship' is something measurable that people work towards and rewards the progress, the other $490,000 is going into stuff like more staff and liscences (very expensive), support and optimisation for more systems etc. People wouldn't be so enthusiastic for a strech goal of 'hire an extra art designer and buy three more liscences' plus a lot of the costs are not set, its that they need the money generally...

Almost every campaign uses strech goals and its always easy to see that whats being added doesn't cost that much but its because most of the money is going into the whole game, its just a way to incentivise people and get them hyped up to get more funding. If PA hadn't had strech goals they would have gotten waaay less money.
  18. Klaleara Member

I don't know, most the Stretch Goals I have seen have a reasonable price for it. That or they say "And more", he gives no indication that he will spend the rest of the money on something else.

I am pretty certian that these .5 strech goals are just as a sort of milestone/encouragement to get to the proper ones at 3m, 4m etc. I am sure that it will all go into more in the game, I don't really think he needs to say this at the end of every one...
  20. Klaleara Member

Honestly I wouldn't think twice about it, but with the other things we have talked about all bundled up. Meh.
